Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC)
The Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) is a standard measure indicating the amount of sound absorption a surface, such as a ceiling tile, provides. It's typically expressed as a percentage or decimal. A value of 1 (or 100%) signifies complete absorption, while 0 (or 0%) means total reflection. Essentially, the higher the percentage or decimal, the greater the tile's sound absorption capacity.

Soniguard™ Drop Ceiling Insulation
Soniguard™ Drop Ceiling Insulation offers thermal-bonded, non-woven batting made from polyester fiber that is skin-safe. Each batt measures 24 x 24 x 1.5 inches, with two batts recommended for a 24 x 48 inch panel. Do not install beneath fire sprinklers.Benefits of Soniguard™ Drop Ceiling Insulation
- Thermal Resistance: R-6, ASTM C518
- Water Vapor Sorption: 0.0033 percent, ASTM C1104
- Surface Burning Characteristics: Class A, ASTM E84
- Does not promote fungal growth, odor, or corrosion: ASTM C665
- Fungal Resistance: 0 (no growth), ASTM C1338
Installing Soniguard above your suspended ceiling tiles will significantly enhance the acoustic performance of any drop ceiling, regardless of the type of tile (vinyl, mineral fiber, or even tin) you have in place.
